Terminal software for closed system satellite communications
Gatehouse Satcom offers Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) protocol components for tactical satellite communication (TacSat). DAMA is a channel assignment technology, Demand Assigned Multiple Access, used in Satellite communication. DAMA/IW has the added advantage that it functions on any GEO satellite offering capacity using bent pipe, thus requires no special security or coordination hardware on the satellite. The services provided are: Speech, Messaging, Data, VoIP, Unicast, Multicast, and Broadcast.
The embedded protocol stack can be used by governmental, military and corporate security organizations within the fields of e.g. Border control, Security guards, Oil and gas and more.

System overview
Gatehouse Satcom offers individual software components like MAC and Control Layer for civil use.
The communication system uses UHF band capacity on a geosynchronous satellite where mobile terminals communicate controlled by a Hub is also connected via a DAMA based scheme.
The MAC layer controls the modem, instructing it to transmit the required amount of data at the specified time. A “DAMA Terminal Controller” component manages this access based on information received on the accessed channel and requests for access from application level software in the terminal.
DAMA
Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) is a protocol used in satellite communications. DAMA enables efficient and instantaneous assignment of transponder channels on a first come, first served basis according to data priority. The Gatehouse DAMA Radio Protocol Stack is an efficient way to get a robust data and voice tactical radio system developed.
