Network controller for mission critical satellite communications
Gatehouse provides a mobile UHF Satcom controller which can be used in conjunction with US allied defence operations. The network controller is compliant with DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) MIL-STDs and provide interoperability with existing terminals. DAMA is a channel assignment technology used in satellite communication. It has been adapted and specified in MIL-STDs to be used for tactical communication.
DAMA has the added advantage that it functions on any GEO satellite offering capacity using bent pipe, thus requires no special security or coordination hardware on the satellite. The allocated bandwidth is divided into channels and the DAMA controller assigns channels from this available pool of channels, when services are requested by terminals. The services provided are: Speech, Messaging, Data, VoIP, Unicast, Multicast, and Broadcast.

System overview
The system is used by military organizations and consists of one controller and a number of terminals. Gatehouse Satcom offers a controller as a boxed solution and individual software components like MAC and Control Layer. The communication system uses UHF band capacity on a geosynchronous satellite where mobile terminals communicate managed by a controller are also connected via a DAMA based scheme.
The controller manages allocated channels controlling individual access from terminals. Both communication between the controller and one or more terminals, and inter-terminal communication is possible. Inter-terminal communication can be provided either directly or by loop-back through the controller.
The Gatehouse Satcom DAMA/IW controller provides a user-friendly interface for configuring the system including channels allocated for the system.
