The BGAN Protocol Stack (BPS) is the software core used by leading BGAN terminal manufacturers such as Addvalue Technologies, Japan Radio Co., Honeywell and Hughes. It combines the UMTS Non-Access Stratum with Viasat’s (previosuly Inmarsat) proprietary Access Stratum and, together with the physical and application layers, forms the complete software foundation for a BGAN user terminal.
As a core component of the Viasat User Terminal Reference Stack, BPS is fully compliant with the Viasat System Definition Manual (SDM). It is validated through Viasat Mandatory Test Requirements, extensive over-the-air testing and Gatehouse Satcom’s own refined automatic test suite. The BGAN Protocol Stack can be integrated with any physical layer, whether developed by the customer or provided by Gatehouse Satcom.
