Gatehouse Satcom is proud to be a founding member of Space Connect North, a new industrial cluster dedicated to strengthening Denmark’s space and satellite communications sector. This initiative brings together industry leaders, academic institutions, and organizations to drive innovation, share knowledge, and build strategic partnerships. By uniting expertise across the space ecosystem, Space Connect North is set to accelerate Denmark’s position in the global space industry.
Space Connect North’s founding members include Aalborg University, Gatehouse Satcom, Sternula, GomSpace, Cobham Satcom, Necas, and Rohde & Schwarz Technology Center. Together, these organizations form a strong ecosystem of space and satellite technology, with expertise spanning satellite manufacturing, next-generation satellite communications, and advanced space testing.
Aalborg University brings cutting-edge research and talent development, aligning academic innovation with industry needs. Sternula is pioneering satellite-based maritime connectivity, GomSpace is a leader in nanosatellite manufacturing, and Cobham Satcom and Gatehouse Satcom provide proven satellite communication technologies. Necas and Rohde & Schwarz Technology Center contribute specialized electronics and advanced testing capabilities. Each member strengthens the cluster, creating an environment where collaboration fuels progress.
“To my knowledge, there’s no other place in Europe where so many established space and satellite companies are located in such a concentrated area. This makes Northern Denmark a natural destination for global companies seeking products, technology, or research collaborations,” says Kenney Schmidt Christiansen, CEO of Gatehouse Satcom.
By bringing together world-class expertise, Space Connect North fosters innovation, attracts investment, and advances research in space technologies. Many of the cluster’s members already have operational satellite technology in orbit, and this shared foundation will drive future advancements.
One of the cluster’s key strengths is its ability to bridge academia and industry. Professors, researchers, and businesses collaborate to ensure that research and education translate into real-world solutions. Space Connect North is also launching a centralized job portal, making it easier for skilled professionals to connect with opportunities across the cluster’s companies.
“Our shared job portal will give potential employees confidence that they are joining not just one company but an entire ecosystem of exciting opportunities,” says Claus Svendsen, HR Director at Gatehouse Satcom.
This approach strengthens Northern Denmark’s reputation as a hub for space innovation and talent development.
