Gatehouse Satcom has named Peter Mariager Chief Technology Officer. Peter has been our VP 5G Technology for the past two years, so he takes on a job he already knows well.
About Peter
Peter does not look for the spotlight, which is fairly standard in North Jutland, where our Aalborg headquarters sits. It is also mildly inconvenient, because he is very good on a stage.
He can talk for hours about where satellite communication is heading. Right now his focus is onboard intelligence: the software that decides how the network behaves is moving off the ground and onto the satellite. He never stops at the headline version.
That standard also makes him hard to get writing for our channels. He has plenty to say, but he will not write banalities. “Sure, I’ll write about what we are going to explore next,” he told us. “But I would rather write about the people here.”
He means it. Peter supervises students at Aalborg University in his spare time, and his most recent LinkedIn post congratulated one of our engineers on defending his PhD.
Give Peter free rein on a new technology and he will ask early whether it can carry its own weight commercially. He asks before the demo works, not after. He is curious about new tools, AI included. He is also certain that the answers still come from people arguing in front of a whiteboard, and that an answer only counts when it solves a problem for a customer.
We have promised ourselves not to settle for what works today. Satellite communication keeps moving, and our job is to get our customers to the next thing before they have to ask for it. Peter is the right person to lead that.
